Tech Tuesday #8: Quest Begins

Hello everyone, I’m back from a week spent playing ODST and various other games. Now today I think will be a little different, unless I happen across a catchy video by the time I end this article that is. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sustain having a video every week, so this week I am going forward with an idea I touched on in the first Tech Tuesday. I’m hoping to have a guest writer in for next week, so if you’d like to write a little piece and have it posted up here just contact me. I read any of the comments posted.

Quick, I want you to think of at least one gadget that had its name in headlines for exploding and causing injury to a user. Hold that thought for a few seconds, let it marinate a bit. Alright, now if you guessed the Apple iPhone. Bravo, you’ve been paying attention to recent headlines. Anything else….well they are still fun headlines to show your friends and get a chuckle out of right? Back to the iPhone, yes I am quite serious that the iPhone is actually exploding. Recently a user somewhere in Europe had her screen explode and catch fire. This has ushered in talks of banning the iPhone in the European Union entirely, that is something Apple certainly doesn’t want. Could put a bit of a dent in their sales.

Net Neutrality is well on its way, and that means AT&T is loading up all the ammo it can against it. This latest announcement from the telephone giant is the fact that Google (one of the biggest supporters of NN) is violating an FCC ruling by blocking calls to certain rural areas with its Google Voice service. Without reposting large chunks of the original article, it boils down to AT&T calling Google a hypocrite. Oh, and the whole thing with Google Voice app being rejected from Apple Store. AT&T and Apple both are shrugging their shoulders saying they had nothing to do with the rejection. Seriously guys? I feel like I’m watching three year olds denying writing on the wall with crayons.

Throughout me typing this up, I have been resisting the urge to even mention this little ad I found for Windows 7. Microsoft really isn’t known for their awesome commercials. Well, I am going to cave and I’ll post the ad here for you to enjoy. Keep in mind, this is the original and has not been edited. Trust me, there is a better version out there I will share with you all.

Just watch that, and imagine how that exact ad could get even better. Got your ideas? Good. I suggest taking a moment and gather any friends around your computer screen to watch this next one. Laughter is best shared in groups, and I know I laughed pretty hard with this one. 😛

And with that, I think I will sign off for the week. Leave a comment if you want to be the guest writer for next week and I will get back to you when time allows it. Do tell me any funny stories you get from showing people both versions of the Windows 7 ad.
