There’s a Zombie On Your Lawn…

“I know your type, tall, dark, and dead” Sorry but just wait, you’ll be doing it too. So… I decided to go poking around PopCap’s website for some unknown reason and came across Plants Vs. Zombies. Sick looked over my shoulder and said, “Plants vs Zombies?! That sounds stupid.” I found out it was a “Tower Defense” game. I was curious and told her we should try it.

We got stuck to the Mac, playing the trial… soon we were hooked! Over the next two days we found ourselves playing the trial over and over. Then the next day it went on sale and that was all it took. We could no longer resist making the purchase.

You and your green thumb are on the verge of a looming Zombie Apocalypse and those zombies want to eat your brain. Seriously, they will stop at nothing to get it. You’ll be amazed at the lengths they go to. To start off, you are given a Sunflower and a Pea Shooter to defend your house. The Sunflowers give you “Sun” which you need to plant more plants, and the Pea Shooters… well, they shoot peas. The zombies assault your yard in waves and, as they get smarter, they start wearing/carrying different items for offense and defense. To counter this, you unlock different plants to thwart them. Maybe you’ll get a piranha plant that eats zombies, or a squash plant to “squash” them. The excitement is not knowing what’s gonna happen next! You always get hooked by wondering “What plant will they give me?” or “Which wacky zombie is next?” I’d actually say to myself, “I’ll quit right after this round.” Then they give you a new awesome plant and it’s, “Ok, right after I find out what this bad boy does.” Stuck!

Yes, it was THAT good. There’s also much more to it than the main game: puzzles, survival, and other surprises, it has tons of replay value. We tore it up! We would definitely say that PvZ is Popcap’s #1 title to date. And the fact that it was put together by a small team makes it even more impressive. The artwork and animation done by Rich Werner is A-mazing! (We even downloaded the End Credit music!)

We spent a lot of time poking and prodding and couldn’t find any problems with it. The only thing we didn’t like is that we played it non-stop until we didn’t have anything else to do! I’m not saying that the game is short, we just couldn’t stop!

Plants Vs. Zombies is reasonably priced at $19.95 and available for download on PopCap’s site. It is definitely worth picking up, especially if you’re lucky enough to find it on sale! You actually get more than expected out of this one.

So I’m gonna have to say that I DO want zombies on my lawn… just to pelt ’em with peas, corn and frozen watermelons! Go ahead and grab it, you won’t regret it.
