Violent Game Law

As Seen on IGN,
“Activision joins a growing list of film, music, and software groups opposing a proposed law that would ban the sale or rental of videogames to minors in the state of California. The publisher recently filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, throwing support behind the current entertainment software industry rating and enforcement efforts, such as the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).”

The Supreme Court has finally stated that they are to rule on this soon.

I heard SickNdehed read some of this stuff off today, and I was appalled. This Law, signed by CA Gov. Swarchenegger, proposes that we implement content-based regulation of computer and video games. Courts, media, and elected officials have deemed this a “Violation of the First Amendment.” And it is. Six States have already tried this and their courts have turned it down, but the fact that the Supreme Court is stepping up, that’ll mean that the lesser courts won’t have their time wasted in the future. This has happened throughout history with every other type of media.

Yes, there should be a system in place to regulate these things..but the government should not be who is involved. It seems the Video Game Industry already has it under wraps. FTC has already checked on that.

The problem isn’t the fact that children are playing these games, it’s that the parents LET them and then fail to take responsibility for it. After reading this SickNdehed stated, “There should really be a law that bans people from having/keeping kids that they are unwilling to parent as necessary.”
