The easiest way to describe this game for most is to say, “It’s Smash TV in 3D!” I agree, but it’s much more than that.
MNC is a futuristic sport setting in which “clones” battle it out for cash and prizes, and is meant to be completely multiplayer oriented. Don’t get me wrong, you have the option to go it alone, but I won’t advise that. Not only is the game more fun with others, but you’re gonna need someone to watch your backside.
MNC has two gametypes: Blitz and Crossfire.
- Blitz:
Blitz is a 1-4 player co-op game where your team defends a “Moneyball,” (a giant, shiny “New Year’s Eve” type mechanism in the very center of your base) from hordes of stampeding robots. - Crossfire:
Crossfire is a player vs player gametype. Two teams of 6 face each other in a grueling match to destroy the other team’s Moneyball. Here’s the kicker… These said teams have to escort robots to the opposing team’s moneyball to drop its shields first, NOT an easy task.
MNC has incorporated a cartoony look and humor seen in other games, as well as different class types for each combatant. There are 6 classes to choose from; Assault, Assassin, Sniper, Gunner, Tank, and Support. Each class is very unique and has its own skill set and weapon type. Test them all out and find your favorite, but be careful you don’t have too many of the same class on a team. This may cause the team to be unbalanced and easy to find its weakness. The perfect team is one that utilizes all 6 class types well.
Each preset combatant class also carry “Endorsements.” These sponsors add (what certain games have coined as) perks to your stats (i.e. speed, faster reload, or better health regeneration). There are 10 types to choose from, all having different effects.
One thing that I thought made this game stand out, is during the match you are awarded money for every action you take. This enables you to upgrade your skills and purchase/upgrade turrets in the middle of combat. Be careful not to be “caught napping.”
Money earned in-game also adds to your lifetime earnings. These funds can be used to purchase “Custom” classes. Here you can customize each class to your liking using the different Endorsements in three tiers, each tiers having a varied strength.
The Bad:
Right from the start I noticed UI issues. If you have a party, it is not possible to change Blitz difficulties. You have to disband, change the difficulty, then re-invite everyone. P.I.T.A. Not much more here… the only other complaint I think I can have, is that there isn’t more gametypes.
The Good:
The customization possibilities, gameplay, and overall fun factor makes MNC have plenty of replay value.
The Price:
1200 MS points ($15) Well worth it for the fun factor. I’d even throw in Nostalgia points for the Smash TV reference.
