Let’s see here, Treyarch is handing out spy gear. You heard me right, I’ll be discussing exactly what in just a moment. Take-Two Interactive has also made a few things official that up until yesterday were just rumors, Bioshock is getting a new sequel. This one has a bit of a twist, and if this ends up leading to a System Shock remake later down the road: so be it.
I’m sure most of you by now have scoured the net for scraps of information about CoD: Black Ops, so I can safely assume a large majority of you have seen one of the interesting kill streak rewards in the game. This kill streak lets you call in an RC car you can drive to any location you want then detonate the C4 block attached to the back of it. Very deadly take on a children’s toy really.
Remember MW2’s various collectors editions? Treyarch is following Infinity Ward’s idea and having Hardened and Prestige bundles. Hardened has a custom Black Ops medal, avatar outfit, and a set of co-op maps. Prestige has all of that and a real life version of the RC car kill streak. Minus the exploding. This little car transmits full color video and also audio from roughly two hundred feet away. So if you bought Prestige for MW2 and plan to get this bundle as well, you are another step closer to completing your spy gear.
Now, Take-Two has hit us with a bit of a curve ball. Rumors on the net said there was to be another Bioshock title. Well they were right. Sad to say it, but this new Bioshock won’t be in Rapture. That’s right, we leave the undersea city behind and instead take to the skies in a high flying city called Columbia. Columbia is basically an international P.R. stunt pulled by the U.S. slash flying city of death. Weapons and this mysterious goo (read: plasmids…but not plasmids) are stashed aboard this bustling sky metropolis.
Hints of plot are strung out through the announcement, but basically boil down to this: P.R. stunt travels the world, has weapons, at some point in time develops this goo that gives people powers, somewhere along the line it is hinted at that Columbia makes a crator or two in the earth below using said weapons, and now a disgraced corporate police agent is sent to track down where the city has vanished off to.
This game seems to want to delve deep into a bit of American culture about the turn of the 20th century, so expect many historical references and probably tons of patriotic images plastered everywhere. Uncle Sam will likely make an appearance in a few posters on the flying city he built, if only to show off a little.
So all in all this game sounds similar to Bioshock, you have powers like in Bioshock, and yes there are mechanized creatures of destruction in the style of Big Daddies in the game. Interesting idea for a sequel, and hopefully a big hit. Though I have my doubts anything could top the first Bioshock in this series.
