Custom Cufflinks for the Groomsmen

A few weeks ago I decided I was going to make custom cuff links for the Groomsmen. Truth be told, I had no idea where to begin. My search for cuff link parts only brought up actual cuff links. Eventually I realized I needed to look for cuff link blanks. I found a set of 5 on Ebay for $4.99 and immediately ordered them.

After taking a look at other custom cuff links I convinced myself I needed to use resin. Although that would have probably produced a much higher quality piece, I don’t think now is the time to be experimenting with resin. In addition to being expensive, it’s hazardous if inhaled and lord knows what else happens when mixed wrong.

I spent days searching for an alternative and yesterday I found one. I kept thinking I needed something to encase the image which I would then glue the blank to, but I couldn’t find any in store that would work. I later realized all I needed was some varnish or a flat clear marble, anything I could use the protect the image with. What we found were clear epoxy circles for $2.50 that looked just the right size.

I printed up some tiny circular images. At first we weren’t sure which ones we wanted to use. Since the UNSCDF ones appeared the most elegant we went with those. I then cut out a strip of 10 and ran it through my Xyron which added adhesive to the backside. Cutting out the tiny half inch circles was the most time consuming part. It was important to cut it as perfect as possible since any error would reveal the silver disk on the blank.

After placing the stickers on the blanks I covered them with the Epoxy circles (which were a lot softer than I expected.) It’s very easy to cloud them with fingerprints so you may want to use some kind of plastic to press them down with. I just used the plastic film they came on.

So there you have it. 5 sets of UNSCDF cuff links for under $10. Again, they aren’t the quality I was hoping for, but considering the time constraints and our limited budget, I think they’ll do.

Custom Necklaces for the Bridal Party

When first deciding to have a Halo Themed Wedding, one of the few ways we chose to reinforce the theme was by having our wedding party sport our spartan colors and emblems. A few weeks ago evilcharismatic and I tried making custom necklaces for all the bridesmaids.

Craft Store Items for NecklacesOur craft store ingredients were:

  • Hot Pink & White Fimo
  • Jump rings (small)
  • Hot pink connector gems
  • Heart toggle clasps
  • Silver necklace chains

It was our very first time at making jewelry and we were rather proud of what we accomplished. Especially since our jewelry making tools consisted of nothing more than a push pin and pliers. Sadly though, after putting it all together, I realized I didn’t like how the clay pendant and silver chain looked together.

That’s when I started looking for custom pendant makers on Etsy. It wasn’t long before I found an amazing shop that sold custom soldered pendants. Becky Lanktree, from ArtUnderGlass.etsy.com was kind enough to make the pendants for my bridal party. I asked that one side have my Halo Emblem while the other contained our wedding date and logo. They arrived in the mail today and look amazing!

After several hours of jewelry making trial and error, PsychoVandal was eventually able to assemble all the necklaces. I can’t wait to show my bridesmaids.

You can see more photos on the A Match Made In Halo Flickr Page.

We’ve been getting a bunch of emails lately and I felt some of you might enjoy reading them. It’s wonderful to hear about so many other couples that met playing Halo as well!

I’ll start with 1 for now, but I may just make this a weekly post if we continue to get enough participation. So be advised if you write to us there’s a good chance we might blog about your email.

Hello!

I just stumbled across your website from gamertagpics.com.
I love your website. I can really relate to your situation seeing as how I am in love with a person I met back in Halo 2.

After you raise enough money, you could turn the website into couples who met on xbox live. That would be really neat.

Sorry that I cant donate anything, but I do wish you two the best of luck with all that you two do!

Congratulations!
You have to post pictures whenever you get married.

Jessica

Jessica, your idea sounds pretty cool! I’ll be sure to discuss it with PsychoVandal to see what he thinks.
